Made-to-Measure Sliding Wardrobes for Awkward Spaces

Not every bedroom has a perfectly straight wall and plenty of spare floor space. Sloping ceilings, alcoves, narrow rooms and awkward corners can make it difficult to find furniture that fits properly.

Made-to-measure sliding wardrobes offer a way to plan storage around the shape of your room.

Sloping ceilings and low eaves

A sloping ceiling can leave parts of a bedroom difficult to use. A standard wardrobe may be too tall for the area or leave a gap that collects dust and makes the room feel unfinished.

A made-to-measure wardrobe can be designed to follow the dimensions of the space. The internal layout can then be planned around the available height, with suitable storage placed where it is easiest to access.

Alcoves and recessed areas

An alcove can be a useful place for storage, but standard furniture may not fit its width or depth. A wardrobe designed for the space can make better use of the recess and create a more integrated appearance.

It is worth considering what you want to store there before planning the interior. A space used mainly for hanging clothes will need a different layout from one used for folded items, shoes or bedding.

Narrow bedrooms

When a bed or other furniture sits close to the wardrobe, traditional doors may be difficult to open. Sliding wardrobe doors move across the front of the unit, which can make them a practical choice when there is limited clearance.

They also provide a clean, continuous finish across the wardrobe front, which can help a room feel more orderly.

Make use of overlooked corners

An awkward corner can be hard to furnish without blocking access or leaving a gap. Thoughtful wardrobe design can help turn an underused area into useful storage while keeping the rest of the room easy to move around.

The most important part is to plan around the way the room is used. Consider the items you need to store, the furniture already in place and the areas that cause frustration.

Vanda Design creates made-to-measure sliding wardrobes for homes in Nottingham and the surrounding areas. Every room has its own dimensions and challenges, so a design should begin with the space itself.
